After Aston Villa lost 0-3 to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final, coach Unai Emery admitted that the team was frustrated and disappointed with the result, but also emphasized the progress and growth Aston Villa has made during his coaching.
Aston Villa made it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup this season, but failed to continue their strong performance in the semi-final at Wembley and unfortunately stopped. In the post-match interview, Emery first expressed his apologies to the fans who came from afar.
Emery said: "I'm sorry for our supporters. We are very motivated and hope to share this journey with the fans in the semi-finals. But we have to accept the fact of defeat. Crystal Palace played very well today and we didn't play to our due level."
Despite the defeat, Emery still sees positive changes in the team. Emery said: "We are constantly improving ourselves, whether it was in the UEFA League last year or in the Champions League and FA Cup this year, we are growing. We should be happy and motivated for such progress and excited about the future."
"Today's disappointment and frustration need to be controlled by ourselves. We need to adjust our goals because the Premier League is the top priority at the moment. Only through the league can we qualify for the European arena next season again."
Emery reiterated the belief he has always conveyed to the fans since he took office: "Our goal is to maintain stable competitiveness in the European arena and win trophies. We did it this year and we did it in the UEFA Champions League last year."
“We need the support of every fan when we host Fulham next week. I hope everyone can be close to the team and help us regain our energy and sprint to the final four Premier League games. Returning to the European arena remains our unwavering goal.”
