Former Boston Celtics center Glen Davis, convicted of healthcare fraud, was officially released from prison..

The Athletic reported Saturday that former Boston Celtics center Glen Davis, convicted of healthcare fraud, was officially released from prison after serving a 17-month sentence.

According to the report, Davis, nicknamed "Big Baby," was one of 19 people charged with submitting numerous claims for illegal dental and chiropractic treatments.

Prosecutors allege the scheme paid out a total of $2.5 million to participants, 18 of whom were former NBA players, between November 2017 and June 2019.

Also involved in the fraud case are: six-time All-Defensive Team selection and 2008 Celtics championship-winning member Tony Allen; Tony Allen's wife, Desiree; Shannon Brown, a two-time Lakers championship-wining player; Melvin Ely, a 2007 San Antonio Spurs championship winner; high school star Sebastian Telfair; and William Bynum, who played in the NBA during the 2005/06 season and from 2008 to 2015.

Other former players indicted federally include: 2000 NBA Draft third overall pick Darius Miles; Milt Palacio, Eddie Robinson, Ruben Patterson, Antoine Wright, Jamario Moon, Christopher Douglas-Roberts, Charles Watson II, Anthony Rothen, Allen Anderson, and Gregory Smith.

Prosecutors allege that former New Jersey Nets player Terrence Williams orchestrated the crime and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023.

Although Davis was sentenced to 40 months in prison in May 2024, he did not begin serving his sentence until October of that year.

Previously, the former Boston Celtics center, through his lawyer, requested permission to complete the filming of a documentary to help pay $80,000 in restitution, which led the judge to postpone Davis's imprisonment.

Davis will be housed at the Long Beach Residental Reentry Management Office (commonly known as a "halfway house") to help him transition from prison to social life. During his stay, he will participate in financial management courses and drug rehabilitation treatment, both of which are mandatory during his sentence. Federal records show he will be released on July 9th.

After completing his placement at the Transitional Housing Administration Office, Davis will face three years of supervised release.

The Seattle SuperSonics selected Davis from Louisiana State University in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft, subsequently trading his draft rights along with Ray Allen to the Boston Celtics.

Davis played eight seasons in the NBA, winning a championship with the Celtics in 2008.

His last NBA season was the 2014/15 season with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Davis took a two-year break from professional basketball but returned in 2018, playing one season in the Canadian league and winning the BIG3 championship that same year.
