In the 23rd round of the 2025-26 Premier League season, Tottenham Hotspur fought back to draw 2-2 with Burnley at Turf Moor, but this failed to quell the anger of the fans.
When the final whistle blew, the away stands erupted in boos and protest chants directed at Tottenham manager Thomas Frank. Facing increasingly tense relations, Frank did not shy away from the issue in his post-match interview, choosing instead to directly address the fans' discontent.
Faced with hostility from the stands, Frank first displayed sportsmanship, thanking the fans who had traveled from afar for their support throughout the match. However, he also appealed to the fans to evaluate the game more objectively, rather than focusing solely on the result.
Frank emphasized that although the result was not satisfactory, the team's willpower and running ability when they were behind should not be ignored. He said, "I believe everyone could see our dominance in the first half, and we should have sealed the game. The team fought to the last minute, and that fighting spirit deserves recognition."
While acknowledging the quality of the play, Frank also admitted that the root of the fans' anger lay in the defensive blunders. He frankly stated that the team's performance in the second half was mediocre, and they conceded two crucial goals that they absolutely should not have conceded.
"This is a bad result, and the fans are naturally not happy," Frank said. "We made mistakes on the defensive end, which is a problem we have to work very hard to solve."
When asked by reporters what he would like to say to the fans who turned against him late in the game, Frank reiterated his stance: no emotional retaliation, only a commitment to his job.
Frank stated, "My message has always been the same: we are working very hard to make sure everything is moving in the right direction."
