On August 12th, according to HoopsHype reporter Michael Scotto, the New York Knicks will add a new member to head coach Mike Brown's coaching staff: former Birmingham Central coach TJ Saint. Sources revealed that Saint will officially join the Knicks, but his specific position within the team has not yet been announced.
Saint previously coached the Birmingham Central of the NBA Development League, the New Orleans Pelicans' affiliate. He compiled a 26-40 record in three seasons as head coach and remained with the team during its relocation from Pennsylvania to Birmingham, Alabama. He initially served as an assistant coach during the 2019-20 season, was promoted to associate head coach the following year, and assumed the head coaching role in 2022.
Prior to entering the professional coaching world, Saint played collegiately at Mercer University in Georgia from 2006 to 2008, and subsequently served as an assistant coach at Belmont University and Butler University. In 2014 , he transitioned from college basketball to the NBA as a video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons, a position he held for four seasons. In 2018 , he joined the University of Georgia as the Director of Basketball Strategy.
Saint 's coaching background encompasses not only player development and tactical planning, but also management experience at multiple levels, which will help the Knicks establish a more mature and comprehensive coaching system for the new season. Industry insiders believe he is poised to become one of Brown's most influential assistant coaches.
