Juventus announced on its official website on Saturday that Lille's Canada international center forward Jonathan David has joined the club as a free agent after his contract had expired.

According to Juventus' official statement, David has signed on a long-term five-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2030.

After completing his joining procedures, David, who was interviewed by Juventus' official website for the first time, said: "I am very delight now. Since I was a child, I have always admired clubs like Juventus."

"This is one of the top ten best clubs in the world. Today, it is a great honour for me to be here as a member of this club."

"I feel very excited. Every step in life is full of challenges. Coming to Serie A is obviously a new challenge for me. I must integrate into the team as soon as possible, work hard to build a great understanding with new teammates, and be as successful as possible."

"I hope we can have a very successful season next and win as many trophies as possible."

It is worth mentioning that David will also become the first Canadian player in the Juventus club history.

About Jonathan David

David, 25 years old, was born on January 14, 2000 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. He is 1.78 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward. He can also play as an attacking midfielder. He has the nationality of the United States, Canada and Haiti.

David's family immigrated to Haiti 3 months after he was born. When he was 6 years old, his family immigrated again and settled in Ottawa, Canada.

Since 2010, David has played for the youth academies of several local clubs in Ottawa. In 2018, he joined the Gent youth academy completed his Gent first team debut in the match against Zulte Waregem in August of the same year. At the age of 18, he even scored his first goal in injury time after coming on as a substitute, showing his amazing talent early on.

During his two-year spell in Gent, David was once pursued by Red Bull Salzburg and Stuttgart, but their offers were always rejected.

In August 2020, David joined Lille for €30 million, becoming the most expensive player in Canadian football history.

During his five-year spell with Les Dogues, David played 232 times in all competitions for Lille, scored 109 goals, assisted 32 times, won the Ligue 1 once and the Trophée des Champions once with the club, and is also the club's all-time topgoalscorer in its history.
