Levante announced on Sunday that former Nantes coach Luis Castro has officially taken over as manager. He will coach Levante until June 30, 2027, with an option to extend his contract for another year.
In their official statement, Levante said: "Luis Castro is a coach who focuses on tactical analysis, has a distinctive playing style, and adheres to an attacking football philosophy. He excels in developing individual player abilities, especially in enhancing the potential of young players. With his arrival, Levante's system will be further strengthened. The plan aims to enhance the team's competitiveness and solidify its unique tactical style."
"The club wishes him all the best in his new journey as manager of Levante."
The 45-year-old Castro was born in Guimarães, Braga, Portugal, and officially began his coaching career in 2002. He initially worked in youth training for teams such as Vizela, Moreira, Al-Nassr, Guimarães, and Benfica, and later served as head coach for Panatholex, Dunkirk, and Nantes.
The highlight of Castro's coaching career was undoubtedly leading Ligue 2 side Dunkirk all the way to the French Cup semi-finals. Although Dunkirk ultimately suffered a 2-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Castro's performance still earned widespread recognition.
For Castro, the primary task now is to lead Levante to safety from relegation. Under the leadership of former manager Julian Calero, interim coach Álvaro del Moral, and Vicente Iborra, Levante currently sits at the bottom of La Liga with a record of 2 wins, 4 draws, and 5 losses, accumulating 10 points and trailing the relegation zone by as many as 6 points with a game in hand.
