Premier League club Nottingham Forest have announced that manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been sacked after 21 months in charge.
Nottingham Forest said in a statement: "In light of recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as first team manager."
“The club would like to thank Nuno for his contribution during his time at the City Ground, and in particular for the crucial role he played in the 2024-25 season, a period that will forever be remembered in the club’s history. As one of the key figures in last season’s success, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”
Nuno, 51, took over as manager in December 2023, replacing Steve Cooper. He helped the team avoid relegation in his first season and led them to seventh place in the Premier League in the 2024-25 season, their best finish since the 1994-95 season, and their return to European competition after 30 years.
Last season's success earned Nuno a three-year contract extension, but as the season progressed, tensions between Nuno and club owner Evangelos Marinakis became increasingly public.
The two sides were particularly divided over transfers, with Nuno criticizing the club for wasting a valuable summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the new global director of football, Edu, took over recruitment, weakening his influence. In August, Nuno even admitted to fearing for his job.
It is reported that Nottingham Forest has started looking for a new head coach and the appointment may be announced soon. Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Anchi Postecoglu is considered a potential candidate.
