Sky Sports reported on Thursday that Nottingham Forest's Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis will hand over his management rights in the club.
According to reports, Marinakis has set up a supreme decision-making committee and promoted several core senior executives from the management to become members of the committee. After that, the committee will exercise the club's mportante decisions on behalf of Marinakis under the authorization of him.
Since Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos belong to the same owner, and both clubs are almost certain to at least secure qualification for UEFA Conference League next season, in order to avoid suspicion, Marinakis had to make this decision before the April 30 deadline set by UEFA.
Although he no longer has management rights in the management, Marinakis will still retain his position as the owner of Nottingham Forest.
This situation is similar to the decision made by Tony Bloom, who is also the joint largest owner of Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise in recent years.
Unlike Red Bull, Marinakis has not clarified whether this arrangement is permanent, so it is not known whether the old management rights model will be restored if the Forest team fails to qualify for European competitions as it did this season.
UEFA recently decided to follow FIFA's example by strengthening the eligibity of clubs with multi-club ownership to qualifiy and participate in European competitions at the same time.
The authorities stipulate that clubs that qualify for European competitions under the multi-club ownership model can only qualify for European competitions in the same season if they can accurately, completely and transparently explain the differences in management teams and business philosophies between the clubs.
As the club is currently 6th on the Premier League table this season, and Newcastle United has already qualified for the Europa League by winning the Carabao Cup. Nottingham Forest has basically almost secured at least the qualification for the UEFA Conference League. If they can continue to stay in 6th place, or rank above 5th with better points, the Forest team can even qualify for the Champions League.
