Verona issued a statement on Friday announcing the official signing of Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro. Akpro's contract with Lazio expires this summer and he joins on a free transfer.

The official also confirmed that Akpro has signed a contract with Verona until June 30, 2026.

Akpro was born on October 11, 1992, in Toulouse, France's fourth-largest city, to Ivorian parents. He joined Toulouse's youth academy at the age of 17 and made his professional debut for the first team in Ligue 1 on August 6, 2011.

During his six seasons at Toulouse, Akpro gradually developed into an excellent central midfielder. According to Transfermarkt, he made 132 appearances for Toulouse, scoring 6 goals and providing 10 assists.

In February 2018, Akpro joined Salernitana on a free transfer after leaving Toulouse. He played for Salernitana in Serie B for only two years before being signed by Lazio for €12.7 million.

However, Akpro ultimately failed to establish himself as a regular starter for Lazio. He has been loaned out to Empoli and Monza since 2022, and has only made 55 appearances for Lazio so far.

During the loan period, Akpro made 24 and 33 appearances for Empoli and Monza respectively, 21 of which were as a substitute.

Akpro's situation at the national team level is very similar to his club career. He has represented Côte d'Ivoire on the international stage since 2014, but has only made 17 appearances to date, winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.
