The San Antonio Spurs have welcomed a significant new member to their coaching and management team this summer . The team has reportedly hired former two-time NBA All-Star Rashard Lewis to join Mitch Johnson's player development coaching staff, bringing extensive practical experience and professional background to the young roster.

Lewis's coaching career isn't his first. He served as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons during the 2022-23 season. Prior to that, he had a 16- year NBA playing career, appearing in 1,049 games ( 842 of which were starts) with the Seattle SuperSonics, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, and Miami Heat. He averaged 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game throughout his career , and was an All-Star in 2005 and 2009 .

Another highlight of Lewis's career came in 2009 , when he was a key member of the Orlando Magic's Finals team. Although he fell short, he showcased his formidable scoring and perimeter playmaking abilities. A few years later, he found his way to the championship again with the Miami Heat, facing the Spurs in consecutive Finals appearances in 2013 and 2014. In 2013 , Ray Allen 's clutch three-pointer sealed a comeback victory for the Heat, giving Lewis his first championship. In 2014 , the Spurs exacted revenge, defeating the Heat through teamwork and reclaiming their title.

Now, as a member of the Player Development Group, Lewis will play a key role in developing the Spurs' young roster. The former All-Star forward will undoubtedly bring invaluable experience and guidance to a team revitalizing its stellar season, centered around rising stars like Wen Banyama.
