Manchester United officially announced on Thursday that they have loaned Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana to Trabzonspor for a season. Various indications indicate that the deal does not include a buyout clause.
The official also confirmed that Onana will still wear the No. 24 jersey at Trabzonspor.
There are also reports that Trabzonspor will fully cover Onana's salary during the loan period. Since the Turkish Super League only applies a 20% tax rate to players, Onana's actual income after including signing fees and bonuses is almost double that of his Manchester United salary.
Onana, 29, came through the La Masia youth system and made his first-team debut for Ajax on August 20, 2016. By the time he left the club in July 2022, he had made 214 appearances for Ajax, keeping 85 clean sheets and winning three Eredivisie titles, two Dutch Cups, and one Dutch Super Cup.
Onana also excelled during his time at Inter Milan. According to Transfermarkt, he made 41 appearances for Inter in all competitions, keeping 19 clean sheets and winning both the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana.
In July 2023, Onana joined Manchester United for £47.2 million. To date, he has made 102 appearances for the club, keeping only 24 clean sheets. Despite this, Onana played a significant role in Manchester United's 2024 FA Cup victory.
