The Phoenix Suns announced on Thursday that they have promoted vice president Brian Gregory to general manager. At the same time, former general manager James Jones will move to a senior advisory position.

Regarding the management changes, Suns owner Matt Ishbia explained: "Brian has always been an important member of our management and has played an indispensable role in recruiting and developing young players. I am very excited about his position as general manager. He has extraordinary basketball wisdom and will definitely bring changes and improvements to our team."

Ishbia added: "James has made tremendous contributions to our organization, and we are grateful for everything he has done for the Suns on and off the court. We are excited to continue to have his experience and insight."

Brian Gregory, 58, who coached in the NCAA for 19 seasons, joined the Suns as vice president of player development in 2023. He is responsible for managing player personnel and scouting for the Suns and played an important role in selecting Suns rookies Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro.

As for James Jones, he will continue to be involved in management decisions as a senior advisor and advise Gregory on team and personnel matters.

James Jones, 44, has served in the Suns management since 2017, serving as vice president of basketball operations and general manager. He was awarded the NBA's Best Executive Award in the 2020/21 season and led the Suns to the playoffs for four consecutive years.
