Walter Benítez says playing in the Premier League and in front of such passionate fans as Crystal Palace is the pinnacle of a dream come true. The Argentina national team goalkeeper, who officially joined the club from PSV Eindhoven on July 1, admitted in his first interview with the club that this was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
Walter Benítez also revealed that his goal in joining Crystal Palace was to win more trophies and build on last season's historic FA Cup triumph. He said in the interview: "I'm very happy and know that I'm playing for a great club with great ambitions. I cherish every day I spend here with my teammates."
"I remember clearly as a child, I always wanted to play in the top league. I told my family that my dream was to play in the Premier League one day because it is the best league in the world. Now, I have finally realized this dream and I am enjoying this experience every day."
“Crystal Palace fans are some of the best supporters in the Premier League and it was an honour to feel and enjoy the atmosphere at the stadium. The passion is similar to that of the fans in Argentina and I cherished every moment I spent at the stadium.”
“My goal is to get playing time, do my best to help the team and contribute my experience to the club. I came here hoping to work with the team and strive to have an excellent season. I know the club won its first trophy last season, which was amazing, and I hope we can win more honors together.”
Walter Benítez is not only an award-winning goalkeeper, but he also helped PSV Eindhoven win the Eredivisie title in the 2024-25 season, keeping nine clean sheets. Previously, in the 2023-24 season, he kept 20 clean sheets, also winning the league title. Furthermore, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, having captained Nice on numerous occasions.
The goalkeeper draws a lot of inspiration from his surroundings in south London. He said: "Coach Oliver Glasner not only demands our best in the games, but also emphasizes intensity and hard work in training and fitness sessions. This is crucial because it drives us to keep improving."
"This pre-season was an important goal for us. I noticed that the team became closer and more united. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere in training because we put in a lot of effort, and the same goes for the games. This is exactly what I am striving for."
"I now have a much better understanding of the team and a clearer view of the club's ambitions. This is very important for me because I want us to have a great season and win more trophies in the future."
