Former Liverpool legendary captain Jordan Henderson officially joins Brentford on a free transfer..

Brentford announced on its official website on Tuesday that former Liverpool legendary captain, England international midfielder Jordan Henderson has joined the club as a free agent after leaving Ajax.

According to Brentford's official statement, Henderson has signed on a short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027. He will wear the No. 6 jersey which was vacated by the team's former captain Christian Nørgaard after he had moved to Arsenal.

After completing his joining procedures, Henderson, who was interviewed by the Brentford official website for the first time, said: "I am very happy to be here. I am very excited to start a new life and move forward."

"I have always admired this club and what they have achieved in the past few years, especially their growth as a club."

"I heard that this club is well-organized, well-managed and very family-oriented, which I think is very important."

"When I spoke to Phil Giles, Lee Dykes and Keith Andrews, I felt very good about everything. As soon as the conversation ended, I knew clearly that I wanted to come here, and in the end the decision was easy to make."

"I spoke to Keith a few times, he is very good, very frank, and he is also very happy to start a new life."

"He is another important reason why I want to come here to help the club move forward."

This transfer also means that Henderson will return to play in the Premier League again after 2 years.

At the same time, it will completely shatter all the fake news that the Dutch conservative newspaper De Telegraaf had been falsely claiming that he would join Monaco.

About Jordan Henderson

The 33-year-old Henderson was born in Sunderland, England on June 17, 1990. He is 1.82 meters tall and primarily plays as a center midfielder, but he can also play as a defensive midfielder or right midfielder. Enthusiastic about public welfare and community service, he was awarded the Member Order of the British Royal Family in 2021.

Henderson joined the Sunderland youth academy at the age of 8 and made his first-team debut by coming as a substitute in the Premier League match against Chelsea in November 2008, during which time he was also loaned-out to Coventry City.

He has already been performing well at a young age. He has been selected into FIFA's Best Young Player lists, and has also been voted as the club's Player of the Year by Sunderland fans once.

On June 11, 2011, Henderson moved to Liverpool for £20 million.

Henderson, who was mistakenly called the "new Steven Gerrard" by the media at the beginning after joining, was disliked by the fans because his scoring efficiency was not as high as the former, and even the club's legendary player-manager Sir Kenny Dalglish took over as well as his successors Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers.

Among them, Rodgers even made a public intention of selling to him Fulham in the form of a swap deal with former American international player Clint Dempsey, which once made Henderson disappointed. Despite this, Henderson has since become an undisputed key player in the Reds' squad with his outstanding performance and leadership.

In June 2015, after Gerrard left the club and moved to Los Angeles Galaxy, Henderson, who was already the vice-captain at the time, was promoted as the new captain of Liverpool.

After that, his performance became better and better with age like a fine red wine, during which Henderson has also slowly became one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

Throughout his 12-year spell with the Reds, Henderson made a total of 492 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scored 33 times, assisted 61 times, led the team to win 8 titles, including 2 English League Cups, 1 Premier League, 1 FA Cup, 1 English Community Shield, 1 UEFA Champions League, 1 UEFAn Super Cup and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.

At the end of July 2023, Henderson joined Al-Ettifaq for £12 million, reuniting with former teammates Steven Gerrard and Georginio Wijnaldum.

However, after becoming a member of Al-Ettifaq, Henderson was heavily criticized by most people in the UK, as he became motivated by money and threw his principles of vowing to “ commit fight for human rights and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, etc., who have records of obvious violations of human rights  to the end” aside and lied.

In the end, because he was dissatisfied with the low level of football in the Saudi Pro League, Henderson terminated his contract and left the club a few months after joining.

In January last year, Henderson joined Ajax as a free agent.

During his one-and-a-half-year spell with de Godenzoonen, Henderson has played 57 times for the Eredivisie giants in all competitions, scored 1 goal, assisted 9 times, and reached the KNVB Cup, Europa League and UEFA Conference League round of 16s once each with the club.
