Levante officially announced on Wednesday that Australian goalkeeper Matthew Ryan has completed a free transfer. The two parties signed a contract until June 30, 2026, with an option for a one-year extension.
"I'm very excited," Ryan said after signing. "I'm also very happy to be back in the top flight and I'm looking forward to being part of this project at Levante."
He added: "I'm here to help the team achieve our goals this season. Levante showed a lot of promise at the start of the league. In the first two games, with a little more luck, we could have achieved more."
Ryan, 33, trained at Blacktown Town and Central Coast Mariners before making his A-League first-team debut for Central Coast Mariners on August 28, 2010. He subsequently played for Club Brugge, Valencia, Genk, Brighton, Arsenal, Real Sociedad, Copenhagen, AZ Alkmaar, and AS Roma before joining Lens for €800,000 in January 2025.
To date, Ryan has made 410 club appearances, including 25 Europa League matches, 11 UEFA Champions League matches, 14 Asian Champions League matches, 124 Premier League matches, 14 Ligue 1 matches, 13 La Liga matches, 71 A-League matches, 63 Belgian League matches, and 47 Eredivisie matches. He has kept 158 clean sheets, winning both the A-League title and the Belgian Cup.
Ryan has also been a consistent performer for the national team, having played 99 times for Australia, keeping 43 clean sheets and winning the 2015 Asian Cup.
