Paris Saint-Germain thrashed 10-man Atlético Madrid 4-0 on matchday 1 of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Group B match at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles, USA on Sunday.

In the first half, Ruiz scored from a long shot and Vitinha scored with a volley. In the second half, Kvaratskhelia's shot hit the crossbar, Alvarez's goal from a close-range volley was ruled out, Lenglet protested against the referee excessively and was sent-off, and Mayulu scored with a volley. Before the end of the match, Lee Kang-in scored a penalty. In the end, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Atlético Madrid by 4-0. After this round of games, the Champions League defending champions Les Parisiens, temporarily leads the table with 3 points; Los Colchoneros is bottom of the table with 0 points.

First Half

In the 19th minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia passed back from the right side of the box, Fabián Ruiz quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, took a long shot with his left foot from the edge of the penalty area. The ball flew straight into the bottom right corner of the net, leaving Jan Oblak out of reach. Paris Saint-Germain broke the deadlock to take an early 1-0 lead!

In the first minute of injury time, Rodrigo De Paul passes horizontally from the center of the box. Upon receiving the pass, Antoine Griezmann volleyed with his left foot from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Soon after, Kvaratskhelia passes horizontally from the front, Vitinha quickly followed up, and dribbled into the center of the box before the volleying the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with his right foot. Paris Saint-Germain expanded its lead to 2-0!

At the end of the first half, Paris Saint-Germain temporarily led Atlético Madrid by 2-0 into the halftime break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 49th minute, Nuno Mendes passes horizontally from the front. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia quickly followed up, got the ball, cuts inside and took a few steps before volleying with his right foot from the left side of the penalty box, his shot was saved by Oblak and unfortunately hitting the upper right corner of the crossbar. Paris Saint-Germain missed a golden opportunity to score another goal!

8 minutes later, Atlético made a quick counterattack. Giuliano Simeone passes horizontally from the front. Julián Alvarez quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with his right foot from a very close distance in the box. However, the VAR assistant referee intervened immediately! After going through the VAR checks, Koke had fouled Désiré Doué maliciously before this, thus the goal was ruled out!

In the 78th minute, Clément Lenglet was sent off by the referee for protesting excessively against Seny Mayulu who blocked Oblak from kicking off in the box. Atlético Madrid was forced to finish the game with 10-man!

11 minutes later, Ibrahim Mbaye intercepted the ball and made a straight pass from the left wing. Seny Mayulu quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with his right foot at the left side of the box. Paris Saint-Germain expanded its lead again to 3-0!

In the 3rd minute of injury time, Mbaye strucked the ball with his left foot at a difficult angle from a very very close distance in the box. His shot was initially saved and cleared off not far away by Oblak. Upon picking up the loose ball, Mayulu volleyed with his left foot at a difficult angle from the left side of the box. His shot hit Robin Le Normand's palm, and the VAR assistant referee intervened immediately! After going through the VAR checks, Le Normand's handball foul was correct, thus the referee immediately gave Les Parisiens a penalty kick opportunity!

Lee Kang-in scored with his right foot from the penalty kick, and Paris Saint-Germain locked the scoreline at 4-0!
