Liverpool beat Preston with a 1-3 away win at Deepdale in the first pre-season friendly match following the death of Portugal legendary international forward Diogo Jota on Sunday.

Before the match, in addition to a one-minute silence, the staff and fans of both clubs sang Liverpool's club anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone" and Jota's chants together. Preston captain Ben Whiteman also laid a wreath to Jota on behalf of the club.

In the first half, Bradley pushed the ball into the net from a close range. In the second half, Núñez pushed the ball into the net, Lindsay scored with a header, and Gakpo volleyed into the net. In the end, Liverpool beat Preston with a 1-3 away win, paying tribute to Jota with an excellent result.

First Half

In the 17th minute, Ryan Gravenberch passes horizontally from the midfield center circle, Rio Ngumoha quickly followed up, got the ball, dribbled and cuts into the center of the box before volleying with his right foot, but his shot was blocked by Alistair McCann and went out for a corner.

3 minutes later, Giorgi Mamardashvili made a long pass from his own penalty area. After successfully beating the offside trap, Federico Chiesa quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the right side of the box before volleying with his left foot, but his shot went just slightly wide of the left side of the post.

In the 33rd minute, Dominik Szoboszlai passes horizontally from the center of the box. Conor Bradley quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, pushed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with his right foot from a very close distance in the box. Liverpool broke the deadlock first to take a 0-1 lead!

At the end of the first half, Liverpool temporarily led Preston 0-1 into the halftime break.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 53rd minute, Liverpool made a deadly quick counterattack. Jordan Storey made a mistake while back-passing the ball in his own back half. After successfully beating the offside trap, Darwin Núñez quickly followed up, intercepted the ball and dribbled into the right side of the box past the outrushing Daniel Iversen before pushing the ball into the bottom left corner of the empty net with his right foot. Liverpool expanded its lead to 0-2! After scoring, Núñez chose to celebrate the goal with Jota's signature gesture!

In the 76th minute, Lewis Koumas passes back invertedly from edge of the byline at the left side of the box. Wataru Endo quickly followed up, got the ball and . took a few steps before volleying with his right foot on the right side of the box, but his shot was blocked by Liam Lindsay.

4 minutes later, Daniel Jebbison dribbled into the right side of the box before volleying with his left foot. His shot was saved by Freddie Woodman and hit the crossbar before bouncing off. Preston missed a golden opportunity to pull a goal back!

In the 83rd minute, Preston got a deadly corner kick opportunity. Jeppe Okkels took the corner by crossing it into the box. Liam Lindsay rose high and scored with a header in the box. Preston pulled a goal back at 1-2!

5 minutes later, Liverpool made a deadly quick counterattack. Ben Doak intercepted the ball and passes horizontally from the right side of the box. Cody Gakpo quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with his right foot from the center of the box. Liverpool secured the victory at 1-3! After scoring the goal, Gakpo also chose to celebrate the goal with Jota's signature gesture!

When the final whistle is blown, Liverpool beat Preston with a 1-3 away win.
