Porto secured a resounding 3-0 victory over Nice on matchday 5 of the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League season League Phase match at the Estádio do Dragão on Thursday.
In the first half, Gabri Vega opened the scoring with a powerful shot. He followed up with another goal later. In the second half, Samu converted a penalty. Ultimately, Porto cruised to a 3-0 win over Nice. After this round of the matches, Dragões sits in 8th place with 10 points; having lost all five matches, Les Aiglons is bottom of the table with 0 points, becoming the first club to be eliminated.
First Half
Just 20 seconds into the game, Pepê cuts the ball back from the right wing near the byline. Gabri Veiga quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with his right foot, giving Porto a lightning-fast 1-0 lead! This goal officially became the fastest goal of the season in the Europa League!
In the 19th minute, Nice launched a quick counter-attack. Charles Vanhoutte intercepted the ball and delivered a low diagonal through ball from his own back half. After successfully beating the offside trap, Terem Moffi quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled towards the edge of the penalty area before taking a left-footed long shot with his left foot, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.
In the 33rd minute, Porto launched a deadly quick counter-attack. Victor Froholdt passes horizontally from the right wing. Second Half
Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 56th minute, Samu Aghehowa dribbled into the left side of the box and was seemingly brought down by Dante. The referee immediately blew his whistle, deeming it a dive. However, the VAR assistant referee intervened.
After reviewing the VAR footage, the referee changed his mind and ruled that Dante had fouled, awarding Porto a penalty!
Samu took the penalty himself, converting it with his right foot to seal a 3-0 victory for Porto! This is the Spaini international forward wonderkid's 10th goal in all competitions this season!
7 minutes later, Nice launched a quick counter-attack. Antoine Mendy intercepted the ball and dribbled into the right side of the box before volleying with his right foot, but his shot went just slightly wide of the right side of the post.
In the 70th minute, Isak Jansson crossed into the box from the right wing. Kevin Carlos quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the center of the box, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.
Shortly after, Jansson made a straight pass from the right wing. Jonathan Clauss quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before volleying with his right foot from the right side of the box, but his shot flew high out of the pitch.
When the full time whistle is blown, Porto defeated Nice by 3-0, marking the first time that the former's head coach Francesco Farioli had defeated his former club since stepping down a year ago.
