The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) announced on its official website on Monday that its national team's head coach, Marc Bys, has been sacked.

According to the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT)'s official statement, despite repeated warnings, Brys continued to criticize the federation, refused to cooperate with its requests, refused to provide training reports on the national team players, and refused to attend important meetings, seriously violating the discipline, conduct, and responsibilities expected of a national team head coach.

Combined with Cameroon's failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in United States, Canada and Mexico, all of this forced the FECAFOOT to decide to sack him effective immediately.

The statement also added that David Pagou, 56, coach of a Cameroonian top-flight club, will immediately replace Brys as the national team's new head coach.

Pagou's primary task will be to help Cameroon win the African Cup of Nations, which begins on December 21.

Regarding player call-ups, Pagou has confirmed that several key players currently playing in Europe will be left out, the most surprising omission being goalkeeper André Onana, who is currently on-loan at Trabzonspor from Manchester United.

Besides the national team's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper, former Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain veteran player Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is also absent.

Napoli midfielder André-Franck Zambo Anguissa is also destined to miss out due to his club's refusal to release him.

Vincent Aboubakar, a striker who previously played for Beşiktaş and is second only to the country's legend Eto'o in the national team's all-time goalscoring list, was not called up because he has been a free agent for the past few months and is not yet fit to play.

The 63-year-old Brys succeeded Portuguese coach Toni Conceição as the Cameroonian national team head coach in 2022.

However, as the head coach of Les Lions Indomptables, Brys has clashed with the FECAFOOT management several times over the past three years due to his volatile temper.

In May 2024, Brys and Samuel Eto'o had a heated verbal exchange due to ideological differences, and video footage of their conflict circulated online.

Following that, despite being the Cameroon national team head coach, Brys has repeatedly delegated his assistant to attend press conferences and meetings, exacerbating the conflict between him and Eto'o and the FECAFOOT.
