The San Antonio Spurs released an official statement on Wednesday confirming the release of Jeremy Sohan, a 2023 All-Rookie of the Year. The news was first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania and subsequently confirmed by the official announcement.

According to a previous report by TA reporter Jared Weiss, the New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, and Phoenix Suns have all expressed interest in Sorhan. With the buyout process now complete, Sorhan, who is now a free agent, will be free to choose his next destination.

The 22-year-old Sohan is a 2.03-meter tall, 104-kilogram forward who was selected by the Spurs with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft. He was once an indispensable member of the Spurs roster, but has gradually been marginalized since the beginning of this season.

According to statistics, Sorhan played a total of 184 regular season games in his first three seasons with the Spurs, averaging 11.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. However, so far this season, he has only played 28 games, averaging 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 12.8 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 47.5% and a three-point percentage of 25.7%.

Charania further pointed out that Sorhan's decline in tactical importance is closely related to the rise of Carter Bryant. As the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 draft, Bryant has played 42 games for the Spurs so far, averaging 3.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 9.3 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 37.0% and a three-point percentage of 32.0%.

As Bryant develops rapidly, Sohan is finding it increasingly difficult to get playing time. Since January 7, he has only played more than five minutes in two games.

Facing the first slump of his career, Sorhan admitted in an interview: "I won't lie and say that everything has been great during this time, but there have been some really tough times. I've been in the league for four years, and this is the first time I've experienced something like this. I can find all sorts of excuses, reasons, and justifications, but the most important thing is to remember who I am."

He added, "Even if there is no light at the end of the tunnel, as long as you keep working hard and put your energy into the right direction, you will always find hope somewhere."
