The Czech Football Association (FAČR) announced on Wednesday that Ivan Hašek has resigned as national team coach. Hašek's term was supposed to last until the end of the 2026 World Cup European qualifiers, but the team's recent shock 2-1 defeat to the Faroe Islands proved to be the final straw.

After this defeat, the Czech team currently ranks second in Group L with a record of 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. They must defeat Gibraltar on November 17 to have a chance to qualify for the European qualifiers of the World Cup in March next year.

In a statement, Czech Football Association President David Trenda said: "At the meeting of the sports steering group held on Tuesday, October 14, we evaluated the situation of the national team training camp that just ended and the match against the Faroe Islands. The meeting concluded that I will submit a personnel proposal for the immediate dismissal of national team coach Ivan Hašek and his assistant coach Jaroslav Vesely."

"I would like to thank Mr Hasek and Mr Vesely for their work for the national team," he added.

The 62-year-old Hašek succeeded Jaroslav Silhav as head coach of the Czech Republic in January 2024 and has a record of 11 wins, 5 draws and 5 losses to date. Prior to this, he coached Sparta Prague, Strasbourg, Vissel Kobe, the Gabon national team, Al Wasl, Saint-Étienne, Jeddah National, the Czech national team, Al-Hilal, Qatar Sports, Fujairah, Emirates FC and the Lebanese national team, with a total record of 144 wins, 79 draws and 115 losses in 338 matches.

The Czech Republic has yet to decide on a replacement for Hašek. David Trenda stated, "In the coming days, the sports steering group will submit a proposal for a new coaching staff to the Czech Football Association's executive committee. The new coaching staff's goal remains the same: to lead the team to qualify for next year's World Cup."
