Gent's Nigeria international defender Jordan Torunarigha joins Hamburg on a free transfer..

Hamburg announced on its official website on Wednesday that Gent's Nigeria international defender Jordan Torunarigha has joined the club as a free agent after his contract expired.

According to Hamburg's official statement, Torunarigha has signed on a three-year contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2028.

After completing his joining procedures, Torunarigha, who was interviewed by Hamburg's official website for the first time, said: "I am already familiar with the Bundesliga and I am very much looking forward to returning to this special league again, especially for a club like Hamburg with a long tradition."

"The club's leaders have made great efforts to instill a positive attitude in me. I can't wait to get to know my new teammates, coaches and other staff, fans and the city. My goal is to use all my advantages and experience to help us enjoy a successful season together and achieve our goals."

About Jordan Torunarigha

Torunarigha, 27, was born on August 7, 1997 in Chemnitz, Germany. He is 1.91 meters tall and plays as a center back defender. He has dual nationality of Germany and Nigeria. His father Ojokojo and his elder brother Junior were both Nigeria international players.

Torunarigha played for Chemnitz's youth academy when he was young. At the age of 9, he moved to Hertha Berlin's youth academy and completed his Hertha Berlin first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in 2017.

At the beginning of his career, Torunariga was hailed as one of the German football wonderkids for his outstanding performances. Even the famous game FIFA 20 rated him as one of the young players with the highest potential.

However, because the Hertha Berlin team has been inconsistent, Torunarigha has not been able to show his talents well.

In January 2022, Torunarigha joined Gent on a loan with an option to buy. Later, his ownership was bought out for €4.5 million.

During his three-and-a-half-year spell with Gent, Torunarigha played 145 times for the Jupiler Pro League powerhouse in all competitions, scored 4 goals, assisted 6 times, and won the Belgian Cup once with the club.
