After a home defeat to Celta Vigo, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso admitted at a press conference at the Bernabéu that the team's performance was off and hoped to find the right direction in the next Champions League match.
Alonso admitted that the team was angry and frustrated about the loss: "Obviously, we were all angry. This was not the game we wanted, nor was it the result we wanted. We must move forward as soon as possible. There is still a long way to go in the league."
“Militão’s initial injury was a blow to us. We didn’t do well enough in some aspects, and the injury made things more difficult. We reacted too slowly, and we only showed a good counter-attacking attitude when we were playing with 10 men. We can understand the fans’ anger as they left the stadium.”
Facing external criticism, Alonso emphasized that the team remains united and believes the situation can be reversed: "We know that's football, a bad home performance can happen. But the season is long, and we must maintain self-criticism and high standards. Defeat is painful, but the team has not given up."
Real Madrid face Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday, which Alonso sees as an opportunity for an immediate response. He stated, "This is the immediate goal, and it's a game we must show another version of ourselves. We must represent this club with pride and determination."
Real Madrid currently sits in the La Liga standings with 36 points, four points behind league leaders Barcelona. Alonso expressed dissatisfaction with the team's points and performance but maintained a pragmatic approach, stating that he will focus on the next match.
