AS Monaco has officially announced the appointment of Sebastian Pocconioli as the club's new head coach. The 38-year-old Belgian coach has signed a contract with the club until June 2027.  

Prior to joining AS Monaco, Sebastien Pocognoli coached the Royal Union de Saint-Gillois in Belgium, where he achieved significant success in the Belgian professional league, distinguishing himself with his impressive results, ambitious coaching philosophy, and entertaining playing style.  

The 38-year-old Walloon coach led Royal Union to victory in both the Belgian Super Cup and the Belgian League in his first season in charge. Sebastien Pocongnoli led the team to a historic Champions League play-off victory, defeating Club Brugge with 28 points out of 30, securing the club's first top-flight title in 90 years.  

After the 2024-2025 season, Sebastien Pocongnoli was named Belgian Professional League Coach of the Year. That season, he led Royal Union of Belgium to the Europa League play-offs (losing to Ajax) and direct qualification to the Champions League. At the start of the new season, Union topped the Belgian Pro League standings after 10 matches. Pocongnoli's team once again demonstrated its competitiveness and consistency, with a 3-1 away victory over PSV Eindhoven.  

Sebastian Pocognoli played left-back as a player, making over 360 appearances in the top leagues of Belgium, England, the Netherlands, and Germany. After retiring in the summer of 2021, he officially embarked on a coaching career. Pocognoli began his football career with the Royal Union de Saint-Giroux U21 team, then played for Royal Genk U18s, and was selected for the Belgian national U18 team.
