Borussia Dortmund announced on their official website on Wednesday that they have extended the contract of their German goalkeeper, Alexander Meyer.
According to Dortmund's official statement, Meyer has signed on a new short-term two-year deal which will only run until the summer of 2027.
In an interview with Dortmund's official website after finalizing his contract extension procedures, Meyer said: "Dortmund feels like home to me now. I am deeply grateful for the many unforgettable moments I have shared with the club over the past three and a half years. Communication with the club's management has been filled with mutual trust and high respect. Being able to continue at Borussia Dortmund means a lot to me."
About Alexander Meyer
The 34-year-old Meyer was born on April 13, 1991, in Bad Oldesloe,, Germany. He is 1.9 meters tall and plays as a goalkeeper, making him one of the tallest active goalkeepers in European football.
Meyer joined the youth academy of his hometown club, Oldesloe, at a young age, moved to Hamburg's youth academy in 2005, and then began playing for their reserve team in 2009.
After his contract expired in the summer of 2012, Meyer successively played for Havelse and Energie Cottbus, and also for Stuttgart's reserve team, but never got a chance to play in a professional league.
In the summer of 2019, Meyer joined Jahn-Regensburg on a free transfer, finally getting his first opportunity to play in a professional league.
During his three-year spell at Jahn-Regensburg, Meyer helped the 2. Bundesliga club avoid relegation and even surprisingly reached the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal once.
After his contract expired in July 2022, Meyer joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer.
Since joining BVB, so far, Meyer has made 25 appearances for the Bundesliga powerhouse in all competitions, helping the club reach the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal and the FIFA Club World Cup once, as well as the UEFA Champions League final once.
