Lille announced on its official website on Sunday that the club has extended the contract of its captain, French defensive midfielder Benjamin André.

According to Lille's official statement, André has signed on a new short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2028.

After completing his contract extension procedures, André, who was interviewed by Lille's official website again, said: "At this moment, I feel happy and proud. I am very happy to continue this adventure with everything we have experienced here. I hope we can experience more beautiful things together. I will do my best and go all out on the pitch."

About Benjamin André

André, 34, was born in Nice, France on August 3, 1990. He is 1.8 meters tall and primarily plays as a defensive midfielder. He can also play as a right midfielder. He has dual French and Senegalese nationality.

André joined the youth academy of non-league club Saint-Raphael at the age of 6, and at the age joined the Ajaccio youth academy at the age of 16, and completed his Ajaccio first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in August 2008.

Although the team's overall performances was not good during his 6-year spell with Ajaccio, André was appreciated for his outstanding personal performances.

After leaving the club at the end of his contract in the summer of 2014, André joined Rennes as a free agent.

During his 5-year spell with he played for Les Rouge et Noirs, André won the Coupe de France once with the club.

In July 2019, André moved to Lille for €8 million.

Since becoming a member of the Les Dogues, André has played 248 times for Lille in all competitions so far, scoring 10 goals, assisting 11 times, and winning the Ligue 1 once and the Trophée des Champions once with the club.
