Athletic Bilbao has signed a contract extension with Mikel Jaureguizar for four more seasons, with the new contract valid until June 30, 2031. In addition, the new contract does not contain any termination clause. The midfielder has been in hot form this season, making 48 appearances in his first full season with the national team, which is very impressive.  

Mikel Jaureguizar signed his new contract at the San Mamés Stadium with club president Jon Uriarte and director of football Mikel González. As an outstanding graduate of the Lezama Academy, the player is considered one of Athletic Bilbao's most promising newcomers.  

Mikel Jaureguizar has been a force to be reckoned with at Athletic Bilbao since joining the club from Bermeo FT in the summer of 2021. He made 10 appearances last season and head coach Ernesto Valverde has planned a key role for him in the 2024-25 season.  

Mikel Jaureguizar is not only good at initiating attacks from midfield, but also able to control the tempo of the game and create threats in attack. The midfielder from Bermeo has scored three goals for the first team, the most recent of which was the goal that broke the deadlock in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Manchester United at Old Trafford.  

Oscar de Marcos has decided to give Mikel Jaureguizar the number 18 jersey, a symbol of inheritance and responsibility, which was taken over by the retiring captain from Carlos Gurpegui, who was an important mentor to Mikel Jaureguizar in his youth.  

At the same time, Mikel Jaureguisar has been selected for the Spanish U21 national team and will compete in the upcoming European Youth Championship in Slovakia. It is worth mentioning that this contract extension follows the club's usual salary structure, which provides a stable basic salary while establishing a corresponding bonus mechanism based on performance.
