Bologna released a statement on Wednesday announcing the completion of the contract extension with captain Lorenzo De Silvestri. The new contract is extended by one year on the basis of the original one and is valid until June 30, 2026.
All signs indicate that Bologna's move continues its policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over the age of 30.
Lorenzo De Silvestri, 37, plays mainly as a right back, but can also play as a right winger. He grew up in the Lazio youth system and made his debut for the first team in the Intertoto Cup on July 23, 2005.
In August 2009, De Silvestre ended his decade-long career at Lazio. He subsequently moved to Florence, Sampdoria and Turin, and joined Bologna on a free transfer in 2020. To date, De Silvestre has made 114 appearances for Bologna, contributing 9 goals and 2 assists, and won the 2024/25 Italian Cup with the team.
After completing the contract extension with De Silvestri, Bologna has made it a priority to keep Greek left-back Charalambos Likogiannis. The current contract between the two parties will expire in two weeks, and the club is stepping up negotiations.
On the other hand, Bologna is also actively investigating right-back candidates. Their current focus includes 25-year-old Atalanta defender Nadir Zolta and 26-year-old Monza defender Samuele Birindelli.
