The Portland Trail Blazers announced on their official website on Tuesday that they have signed Canadian shooting guard Shaedon Sharpe to a contract extension.
While the Portland Trail Blazers declined to disclose the length of Sharpe's new contract, renowned ESPN journalist Shams Charania reported that the both parties have signed a four-year, $90 million rookie contract extension.
Sharpe becomes the second player to sign a contract extension with the Trail Blazers on the second consecutive day, following small forward Toumani Camara.
About Shaedon Sharpe
Sharpe, who is still 22, was born on May 30, 2003, in Ontario, Canada. He is 1.96 meters tall and plays as a shooting guard.
Sharpe played for HB Beal Middle School in his hometown of London, Ontario. As a freshman in high school, he played in the Ontario School Athletic Association AAA league.
For his junior season, Sharpe transferred to Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Arizona.
This season, Sharep averaged 21.4 points and 6 rebounds per game, while also playing for the Canadian national team on the UPLAY Amateur Athletic Union circuit and receiving coaching from former NBA guard Dwyane Washington.
Already considered a five-star prospect and a top prospect by many media outlets during his college recruiting year, Sharpe joined the University of Kentucky, becoming the university's first top-ranked five-star recruit since Nerlens Noelle in 2012.
Sharpe was selected by the Trail Blazers with the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, thus beginning his professional basketball career.
Last season, Sharpe played 72 games for the Trail Blazers, averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 0.9 steals per game while shooting 45.2% from the field, 31.1% from three-point range, and 78.5% from the free throw line.
