Rennes announced on their official website on Tuesday that head coach Habib Beye has been sacked effective immediately.
According to Rennes' official statement, Beyer's assistants Olivier Saragaglia, Sebastian Bischard, and Yann Cavezza will also leave the club immediately.
Until a new manager is appointed, B team manager Sebastian Tambouret will temporarily serve as interim manager of the first team.
Pierre-Alexander Lelivère and Maxime Le Marchand will assist Tambouret.
Furthermore, according to reports from L'Équipe, Beye's dismissal was not solely due to Rennes' winless streak in the past five matches, including a four-game losing streak.
Beye's relationship with several key veteran players had reportedly also deteriorated to a breaking point, leading to his loss of control in the dressing room, making his eventual sacking predictable.
With Beye's departure, Rennes are likely to attempt to appoint former Lens and Nice head coach Frank Haise. However, due to the difference between Haise's preferred "three-at-the-back" tactical system and the club's, Les Rouge et Noirs' final choice for their head coach may not necessarily be Haise.
As of now, Rennes, with 21 wins, 8 draws, and 6 losses, sits in 6th place in the UEFA Conference League place with 31 points, a significant 11 points behind Lyon, who hold the last Champions League spot and are in 3rd place with 42 points.
About Habib Beye
The 48-year-old Beye was born on October 19, 1977, in Surrey, France. He is 1.83 meters tall and primarily played as a right-back, but could also play as a center-back. He has played for Paris Saint-Germain, Strasbourg, Marseille, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Doncaster Rovers. He holds dual French and Senegalese citizenship and is also a Senegalese international.
After retiring, Beye served as head coach of Red Star from 2021 to 2024, helping the club win the Championnat National title once.
On January 31, 2025, Beyer was appointed Rennes head coach, replacing Argentine head coach Jorge Sampaoli.
During his time with Les Rouge et Noirs, Beye managed the Ligue 1 powerhouse in 39 matches across all competitions, achieving 18 wins, 7 draws, and 14 losses, with a win percentage of 46.15%.
