The 30th round of the 2024/25 Bundesliga will see another battle, with Frankfurt travelling to Augsburg. In an interview, coach Topp Muller said his team must quickly shake off the disappointment of the defeat and face the next challenge with a positive attitude.
After goals from Mateo Bawaya, Robin Koch and Ekitik, Frankfurt defeated Heidenheim 3-0 in the 29th round of the Bundesliga. With 3 wins and 2 losses in the past 5 rounds, Frankfurt is currently ranked 3rd in the standings with 51 points.
However, in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, Frankfurt lost 0-1 to Tottenham Hotspur after the opponent scored a penalty in the first half and failed to advance to the Europa League quarter-finals.
Frankfurt coach Topp Muller said, "We must quickly refocus on the Bundesliga. We have won three of the past four league games and this momentum and confidence must be brought to this game. Augsburg is very strong in the confrontation, so this will be a fierce contest, and we are very aware of the importance of this game."
Talking about the defeat in the Europa League, Topmuller said, "We didn't sleep well. Ekitik and Christensen both told me that they didn't sleep all night. We now need to get out of the disappointment of that defeat as soon as possible, and in the face of the next task, we must maintain a positive, enthusiastic and energetic attitude."
"We are on track to have our best season in the Bundesliga so far, which is motivation enough and we feel we are fully capable of rising to the challenge."
In addition, Frankfurt midfielder Gotze will miss the match against Augsburg due to injury. Topmuller said, "Now all forwards can play, including Matanovic, Batshuayi, Ekitik and Erli Vahi. This was not the case a few weeks ago. This is why we didn't use two forwards before."
"Our choice this time may not only be for Augsburg, but may also determine the lineup for the rest of the season. We need to make a more fundamental decision, although some adjustments may still be made during the game."
Topmuller also added, "We will still deal with it one game at a time. Now the focus is on the game against Augsburg. No matter who the opponent is, we always have the opportunity to win 3 points, and our attitude throughout the season has always been to focus on the next game."
