Porto announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has signed Spanish winger Borja Sainz from Norwich City.

According to Porto's official statement, Sainz has signed on a long-term five-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2030. At the same time, he will also wear the No. 17 jersey previously worn by the star Gabri Veiga.

The Portuguese Primeira Liga giants paid a total of €13.3 million to Norwich City to sign Sainz, not includinge a potential bonus clause of up to €2 million. At the same time, the player's release clause was set at €100 million.

After completing his joining procedures, Sainz, who was interviewed by the Porto official website for the first time, said: "I feel very proud and happy. Porto is one of the best clubs in Portugal. I am very happy and eager to start a new life."

About Borja Sainz

The 24-year-old Sainz was born on February 21, 2001 in Leioa, Basque Autonomous Region, Spain. He is 1.78 meters tall and primarily plays as a left winger. He can also play as a right winger. He has Basque ancestry.

Sainz joined Athletic Bilbao's famous Lezama youth academy of  at the age of 11. In 2017, he moved to local rivals Alaves' youth academy. In September of the following year, he began to play for its B team and completed his Alaves first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in August 2019.

During his three-year spell at Alaves, Sainz became one of the biggest contributors to the club's successful survival from relegation.

In August 2021, Sainz was loaned-out to Real Zaragoza.

In July of the following year, Sainz joined Giresunspor as a free agent, but failed to help the club avoid relegation.

After Giresunspor was relegated, Sainz joined Norwich City as a free agent in July 2023.

During his two-year spell with the Canaries, Sainz played 82 times for the EFL Championship club in all competitions, scoring 27 goals and providing 6 assists, helping the club qualified for the EFL Championship play-offs once and was selected into the EFL Championship Team of the Season once.
