Werder Bremen officially announced on Friday that they have extended Amos Piper's contract, which was originally set to expire in 2026, effective immediately. The club has not yet disclosed the length of the extension or other specific details.
Regarding the decision to extend Piper's contract, Werder Bremen's sporting director, Peter Niemeyer, explained: "We are delighted to continue working with Amos at Werder Bremen. Amos has been consistent throughout the year, and his performance on the pitch has been very composed and impressive. Especially in recent weeks, he has repeatedly demonstrated the value he can bring to the team."
Werder Bremen coach Horst Steffen was also delighted with Piper's contract extension: "Amos has played a vital role in stabilizing the defense over the past few weeks. I think he is a true team player, eager to improve every day in training, and has a strong thirst for knowledge and a desire to develop."
Piper, 27, came through the Borussia Dortmund youth academy and made his professional debut for Arminia Bielefeld in the 2. Bundesliga on February 8, 2019. He subsequently made 101 appearances for Bielefeld, including 57 Bundesliga matches.
In July 2022, Piper joined Werder Bremen on a free transfer. He primarily plays as a center-back for Bremen, making 68 appearances to date, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist.
After completing the contract extension, Piper said: "I have been wearing the Werder Bremen jersey for more than three years. It may sound like a long time, but it is far from enough for me. I have accumulated many wonderful memories here - but in the 'memory hard drive' that I have reserved for Werder Bremen, there is still enough space to store more moments, especially those most important, magical moments that I have not yet experienced."
"Out of absolute conviction, I have decided to stay in Bremen. I am full of enthusiasm and drive, and I hope to promote and create something special here."
