Bayer Leverkusen announced on Sunday that Ellis Ben Segher has signed from Monaco on a five-year contract that runs until June 30, 2030.
Born in Saint-Tropez, France, the 20-year-old now represents Morocco at international level. He grew up in the Monaco youth system and made his professional debut for the first team in the Europa League on November 3, 2022.
So far, Ben Seguier has made 95 appearances for Monaco, scoring 15 goals and providing 9 assists.
Ben Seguier's contract with Monaco was originally scheduled to expire in 2027. According to German media reports, the basic fee for his transfer is 30 million euros, which can reach up to 35 million euros after taking into account the floating clause.
Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes praised the transfer. He said after Ben Seger's arrival: "Ellis is a top-notch technical player. He is creative, dribbling skillful, and can tear apart defenses with his precise passing. He will inject new vitality into our attack."
Ben Seger primarily plays as a left winger, but can also operate in various positions, including attacking midfielder and center forward. Rolfes also fully recognizes his versatility in attack: "Ellis can initiate attacks from the wing as well as operate through the middle. His unpredictable style of play makes him a valuable addition to our squad. We look forward to his exciting performances at Leverkusen."
Ben Segher added: "For me, joining Leverkusen means entering a completely new football culture. The Bundesliga is completely different from Ligue 1. I'm particularly excited about this and look forward to getting to know it in depth."
"I have always followed Leverkusen's outstanding performance in recent years. The club has been competing in European competitions for many years and won both the league and cup last year. In France and even in Morocco, Leverkusen is considered a model for German football. I am honored to be able to be a part of it."
