Golden State Warriors center Al Horford recently shared the reasons why he left the Boston Celtics in an interview, saying that the team could no longer give him the opportunities he wanted and was not moving in the same direction.
In the 2024/25 NBA regular season, Al Horford played 60 games for the Boston Celtics, averaging 8.6 points per game, shooting 42.3% from the field and 36.3% from three-point range. In addition, Al Horford also won the NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in the 2023/24 season.
In early October of this year, the 39-year-old Al Horford officially joined the Golden State Warriors and signed a two-year contract.
"I think even though Boston was home to me and everything was there, the situation was not giving me the opportunities I wanted," Al Horford said. "It was more about winning and continuing to compete for championships. But there were so many things hanging in the balance at the time, and I could feel like we were no longer on the same path."
"As the offseason progressed, it became increasingly clear to me that the team's priorities had changed. Trading away Jrue Holiday and Porzingis was difficult for me to accept. While I understand it was a salary issue, it felt like a chain reaction that was really difficult for me to accept."
In addition, Al Horford also shared that Golden State Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green had contacted him.
"That was crucial," Al Horford said. "Everything happened very quickly. They contacted me directly and said they really wanted me to join them. For me, the fit and potential made me feel right. Their initiative was very important to me."
