Atlético Madrid officially completes contract extension with France international forward Antoine Griezmann..

Atlético Madrid announced on its official website on Monday that the club has extended the contract of its legendary France international forward Antoine Griezmann.

According to Atléti's official statement, Griezmann, whose contract was originally scheduled to expire next summer, has signed on a new short-term one-year contract with the club. Griezmann's new contract will now run until the summer of 2027. According to La Liga's regulations, Griezmann's release clause has been adjusted to €85 million.

In addition, according to the news brought by Spanish online media outlet Relevo's resident renowned Italian transfer jornalist Matteo Moretto, Griezmann even voluntarily reduced his wage to complete this contract extension with Atléti.

Following this contract extension, it also means that all rumours which speculated that Griezmann will be joining Major League Soccer clubs (MLS) like Inter Miami, Chicago Fire, San Diego, Los Angeles Galaxy, Los Angeles FC and many others this summer; Manchester United or Chelsea have been completely quashed.

About Antoine Griezmann

Griezmann, 34, was born in Macon, France on March 21, 1991. He is 1.75 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward. He can also play as a shadow striker or left winger. He has French, German, Portuguese and Spanish nationalities and Basque ancestry. His grandfather Amaro Lopes was a former Paços de Ferreira player, and his father Alain is the president of a local non-league club in Macon.

Influenced by his grandfather, Griezmann fell in love with football since he was a child, and played in the youth academy of the non-league club where his father is working. Later, he was unexpectedly spotted by scouts from Lyon and Real Sociedad because of a friendly match with the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy team.

After being invited to visit its training base several times, his family finally agreed to let Griezmann join the Real Sociedad youth academy in 2005.

In September 2009, Griezmann completed his Real Sociedad first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a Copa del Rey match against Rayo Vallecano, becoming one of the few players who have directly made his first-team debut without playing for the reserve team first in the Txuri-Urdin club history.

During his five-year spell at Real Sociedad, Griezmann quickly attracted the top clubs in Europe's big five leagues to compete for his signature with his outstanding performances year by year. At the same time, he also won the Spanish Segunda Division once with the club.

In July 2014, Griezmann moved to Atlético Madrid for 30 million.

In his first spell at Atléti, Griezmann won the Supercopa de España once, the UEFA Europa League once, the UEFA Super Cup once, and reached the UEFA Champions League final once in five years.

In July 2019, after his €120 million buyout clause was triggered, Griezmann moved to Barcelona.

However, due to the overlap of his position with former Brazil international star Philippe Coutinho and Barcelona's financial crisis, Griezmann not only failed to showcase his abilities, but was even deliberately not given a chance to play several times because the team was unwilling to trigger its additional clause.

Despite this, he still won the Copa del Rey once with the club.

On the 2021 summer transfer window deadline day, Griezmann returned to Atlético Madrid on-loan with an option to buy. Later, his ownership was officially bought out for 20 million in September of the following year.

Since becoming a member of Los Colchoneros, Griezmann has played 442 times for the La Liga giants in all competitions across two spells, scoring 197 goals and 93 assists, making him the player with the highest goalscorer record in Atlético Madrid's club history.
