Fulham lost to Bournemouth: Marco Silva: The way we conceded the ball was too careless

In the 32nd round of the 2024/25 Premier League, Fulham lost to Bournemouth 0-1 after conceding a goal shortly after the start of the game. Coach Marco Silva said that his team lost the ball too carelessly and believed that this should not happen in a game of this level.

One minute into the game, Fulham defender Anthony Robinson was unable to clear the ball effectively. Semenyo seized the ball, shook off the defense and shot into the goal, helping Bournemouth get a dream start with a 1-0 lead.

In the following time, Fulham was unable to score a goal and eventually lost 0-1 to Bournemouth away from home, failing to continue their winning streak from the previous round against Liverpool.

After achieving 2 wins and 3 losses in the last 5 rounds, Fulham is currently ranked 9th in the standings with 48 points, the same points as 8th-placed Bournemouth, and the competition for European qualification is still very fierce.

Fulham manager Marco Silva said in an interview, "I am most dissatisfied with the way we started. We had a clear plan before the game, and we performed well in the last game and our morale was high, but our performance in the first 20 to 25 minutes was far from what it should be."

"We knew we had to start the game stronger and we knew our opponents would be at a high level of intensity from the first minute. If we couldn't reach the same pace and focus, it would be a tough game. We expected this and that's why I'm particularly disappointed with our performance."

Marco Silva said, “But from 20 minutes on, we saw the players’ reaction, they kept fighting until the end. We almost completely controlled the game in the second half, continued to put pressure on the opponent, and created many opportunities to equalize the score. We actually had chances in the first half, but the way we lost the ball was too sloppy. At our current level of competition, such a performance should not have happened.”

"It's not just disappointing for me, as the manager I'm certainly the first to blame, but this game should be frustrating for every one of us. We all knew it was not going to be an easy game, but if we had given it our all from the first minute we would have been able to win."

On the other hand, Fulham will face Chelsea at home in the next round of the Premier League, and Fulham can only increase their chances of qualifying for Europe by winning 3 points.
