Bundesliga – RB Leipzig suffered a 2-0 defeat to Union Berlin, finishing second and trailing Bayern Munich by a significant 8 points.

In the 14th round of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, RB Leipzig suffered a shock 1-3 defeat away to Union Berlin. With this result, they sit in second place with a record of 9 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses, accumulating 29 points, a significant 8 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Union Berlin are currently eighth in the Bundesliga with 18 points, boasting a record of 5 wins, 3 draws, and 6 losses.

After the match began, both sides exchanged attacks. In the 17th minute, Oliver Burke's header clearance in midfield inadvertently created an opportunity for Jan Diomande to break through defenses, but fortunately, Frederick Lennoff made a brilliant save to deny Diomande's powerful shot after dribbling past three players. David Raum then took a corner kick from the right, and Christopher Baumgartner's header at the near post was also blocked by Lennoff.

Before the end of the first half, both sides had one threatening shot each: In the 38th minute, RB Leipzig won a free kick just outside the penalty area, but David Raum's direct shot went over the crossbar. In the 45+1 minute, Derek Cohen crossed from the left flank at a 45-degree angle, and Yannick Haberer's header inside the penalty area went just wide.

Shortly after the break, both sides engaged in a goal-fest. In the 57th minute, Jeong Woo-yeong received a cross from Ayosha Kemlin and played a through ball without controlling the ball, allowing Burke to break into the penalty area and fire a shot to give Union Berlin the lead. In the 60th minute, Konrad Hader passed the ball to the right wing, and Tidiam Gomis fired a shot into the net to equalize. In the 63rd minute, Christoph Trimmel sent a long diagonal pass from the right wing into the penalty area, where Ilias Anza dived to head the ball into the near corner.

Union Berlin regained the lead with a header from Ansa. In the third minute of second-half stoppage time, Andrej Ilic broke into the right side of the penalty area and flicked the ball towards the center, where Tim Skaker followed up to score, sealing the victory for Union Berlin. At the final whistle, Union Berlin defeated RB Leipzig 3-1.
