Ole Werner says Bremen failed to convert chances into goals after 0-0 draw with St. Pauli

Werder Bremen drew 0-0 with St. Pauli after Oliver Burke's goal was ruled out in the 31st round of the 2024/25 Bundesliga. Ole Werner said that although the team adjusted its tactics in the second half, his team still failed to turn its advantages and opportunities into goals.

In the 78th minute of the game, Bremen organized an attack. Oliver Burke in the penalty area received a through pass from his teammate and shot the ball into the goal, but the goal was ruled invalid due to offside.

In the end, Bremen tied with St. Pauli 0-0 at home. After failing to maintain the winning streak, Bremen currently ranks 8th in the standings with 46 points, while St. Pauli ranks 14th with 31 points.

Bremen coach Ole Werner said in an interview, "We pressed more aggressively in the second half and executed well. However, we let St. Pauli control the ball for too long, so we made some tactical adjustments at halftime. Unfortunately, we failed to convert the advantage into goals."

"Against a team like St. Pauli, chances are not going to be many, but even so, we should take the chances we create from set pieces or long balls."

Bremen captain Marco Friedel said, "I and the team are disappointed to get only one point. Like in the past few weeks, we did not allow the opponent to get too many opportunities, but if you want to beat St. Pauli, just playing well in the first half is not enough."

"We had some problems with pressing because St. Pauli kept changing positions and never really got into the rhythm of the game. Overall, our performance was not up to the Bundesliga standard."

In addition, Bremen will travel to challenge Union Berlin in the next round of the league. Union Berlin drew 1-1 with Bochum in this round of the league and is currently ranked 13th in the standings.

Forward Marvin Duks shared, “We barely had any highlights in the first half and lacked the great performances we’ve shown in the past few weeks. We knew we wouldn’t have many chances because St. Pauli did a good job defending.”

“Although our performance improved in the second half, we should have won the game judging by the chances we created. Next, we have to prepare well for the game against Union Berlin.”
