The Los Angeles Clippers officially announced that 40-year-old veteran point guard Chris Paul will return to the team and the two sides have reached a one-year contract worth $3.6 million.

The 12-time NBA All-Star, who played for the Los Angeles Clippers for six seasons between 2011 and 2017, now gets his second chance to don the team’s jersey.

The team's president of operations Lawrence Frank welcomed Paul's return, saying: "Chris is one of the most influential players in Los Angeles Clippers history and having him back is huge for us."

"He will join as a backup point guard and inject more experience and wisdom into our backcourt. He still has excellent ball handling, offense organization and shooting abilities, and is willing to cooperate with head coach Tyronn Lue's tactical arrangements and play any role required."

Paul currently ranks second in both the NBA's all-time assists and steals lists. In the past eight seasons, he has played for the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs.

In the last season with the San Antonio Spurs, Paul averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists per game, still showing stable organizational ability. What's more worth mentioning is that Paul became one of the first players in NBA history to play all 82 regular season games around the age of 40.

Paul joins the ranks of legendary stars, including John Stockton, who played all 82 games in his age-39 and 40 seasons, and Michael Jordan, who played all 82 games in his final year at age 39.

With Paul's return, the Los Angeles Clippers' backcourt has gained experience. Although it is the end of his career, Paul's wisdom and stability are still expected to play a role at critical moments and help the team achieve higher goals in the new season.
