Cruzeiro announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has bought out the rights of Brazil U23s international winger wonderkid Marquinhos, from Arsenal.

According to Cruzeiro's official statement, Marquinhos has signed on a three-and-a-half-year deal with the club which runs until the winter of 2028.

In addition, according to the news brought by The Athletic's resident renowned English transfer journalist David Ornstein, Cruzeiro paid a total of £2 million to Arsenal to buy out the rights of Marquinhos.

The Gunners had always hoped to keep the player in the first-team, but because his British work permit was always rejected, the Premier League giants had to decide to part ways with Marquinhos.

About Marquinhos

Marquinhos, who is only 22 years old, was born in São Paulo, Brazil on April 7, 2003. He is 1.75 meters tall and primarily plays as a right winger, but can also play as a left winger.

Marquinhos joined the São Paulo youth academy at the age of 7, and completed his São Paulo first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in July 2021. During this spell, he also won the Campeonato Paulista once with the club.

In July 2022, Marquinhos joined Arsenal for £3 million.

It is worth mentioning that because the player had already reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers before joining the Gunners, the three clubs once had a dispute over Marquinhos' transfer.

Due to the lack of a British work permit, Marquinhos can only be loaned out all year round.

During these years, Marquinhos has played for Norwich City, Nantes and Fluminense on-loan, and won the Recopa Sudamericana once with the latter.

In January 2025, Marquinhos joined Cruzeiro on-loan with an option to buy.

Since becoming a member of Raposa, Marquinhos has played 18 times for the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club in all competitions, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist.
