Official: Al-Hilal extends contract with former Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic until 2028

Al-Hilal officially announced on Sunday that they have signed Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to a new contract. The new contract extends the contract by two years, from its original expiration date of 2026, to June 30, 2028.
Given Milinkovic-Savic's outstanding performance in the Saudi League, this contract extension is seen as a recognition and reward from Al-Hilal. Since joining in July 2023 for €40 million, Milinkovic-Savic has been an irreplaceable core player in Al-Hilal's midfield. To date, he has made 105 appearances for Al-Hilal, contributing 31 goals and 27 assists, and making significant contributions to the team's victories of one Saudi League title, one Saudi Cup, and two Saudi Super Cups.
With the completion of his contract extension, the possibility of Milinkovic-Savic returning to European football in the near future is slim. He had previously been a target for several European clubs, including Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Chelsea, with Juventus being the most active suitor. However, the contract extension and Milinkovic-Savic's €30 million annual salary have made it significantly more difficult for European clubs to acquire him.
The 30-year-old Milinkovic-Savic primarily plays as a central midfielder, but can also operate as an attacking midfielder. A graduate of Vojvodina's youth academy, he joined Lazio in August 2015 for €12 million.
Before his move to Saudi Arabia, Milinkovic-Savic had already established himself as one of Lazio's most iconic midfielders. He spent eight years with the club, making 341 appearances, scoring 69 goals and providing 58 assists, winning one Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.
As for the national team, Milinkovic-Savic has represented Serbia since 2017, and has made 54 appearances so far, scoring 9 goals and providing 8 assists.
