Everton Football Club has officially announced the loan signing of English player Jack Grealish from Manchester City. The 29-year-old midfielder will play for Everton in the 2025-26 season, wearing the number 18 jersey.
The player, who won three Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and one each of the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup with Manchester City, becomes Everton manager David Moyes' sixth new signing of the summer, following the signings of Charlie Alcaraz, Tierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
In his first interview with the club's official media after completing his transfer to Everton, Jack Grealish said: "I am very happy to be able to join Everton. Frankly speaking, this means a lot to me. This is a historic and charming club with an incredible fan base."
"As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place I wanted to join, and that was Everton. I received so many messages and support from Everton fans on social media, which was one of the important factors that prompted me to make this decision. I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the fans for their continued encouragement and love. I hope to repay everyone's trust on the pitch as soon as possible, and I believe I can do it."
Born in Birmingham, Jack Grealish rose through the Aston Villa youth system. After a brief loan spell at Notts County, he made his debut for the Villa first team at the age of 18. He quickly established himself as a key player, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League in 2019. In the summer of 2021, he moved to Manchester City for a British record transfer fee.
Jack Grealish not only won numerous honors at the Etihad Stadium, but also played 39 times for the England national team. He was selected for the "Three Lions" along with England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, and they participated in the postponed 2020 European Championship together, and eventually won the runner-up.
In addition, Jack Grealish revealed the reason why he chose Everton's No. 18 jersey. He said: "I chose No. 18 because it is the number worn by my two favorite English players, Rooney and Gascoigne. I also considered other numbers, but this number means a lot to me."
"When I learned the transfer was about to be completed, I noticed that the number 18 jersey was vacant, which was perfect for me. From then on, 18 became the only number I wanted to choose. Before joining, I also spoke to Wayne Rooney about it, hoping that he would be happy with it."
David Moyes said: "We are delighted to welcome Jack Grealish to Everton. We are delighted to have signed him at this stage. He is experienced and familiar with the Premier League, and we are well aware of his quality and potential."
"I understand Jack Grealish's ambition is to return to the England squad, so we hope to help him achieve that this season. We look forward to working with him and providing him with the platform to perform at his best."
