Stuttgart issued a statement on Tuesday, announcing that 18-year-old Serbian attacker Lazar Jovanovic has officially joined the team. He transferred from Red Star Belgrade and signed a contract until June 30, 2029.
As for Jovanovic's transfer fee, Sky Sports Germany estimates it to be around 5 million euros. If floating bonuses are included, the total transaction amount could be as high as 6 million euros.
Lazar Jovanovic mainly plays as a right winger, but can also play other positions such as attacking midfielder and center forward. He came from the youth training of Vojvodina and made his professional debut for the first team in the first round of the Serbian Super League on July 30, 2023.
In July 2024, Jovanovic joined Red Star Belgrade from Vojvodina for 30,000 euros. He played only 5 times for Red Star Belgrade, and then played 15 times for OFK Belgrade during the loan period.
After completing the transfer, Jovanovic said: "I am very excited to join VfB. This will be my first time to represent a club outside my hometown, which means a lot to me. I am very happy to take this step, and I also hope to contribute as much as possible in Stuttgart, continue to improve myself, and share the joy of victory with my teammates and fans."
Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth went on to add: "We have been keeping a close eye on Lazar Jovanovic for a long time. He played many games in Serbia last season at a very young age and performed well. He also showed his quality in the UEFA Youth League. We are confident that Lazar will be able to adapt smoothly to Stuttgart and the Bundesliga. We also warmly welcome him to Stuttgart."
According to official news, Jovanovic will wear the No. 45 jersey in Stuttgart.
