On September 22 , NBA reporter Chris Haynes reported that the team had reached an agreement with guard Javante McCoy, which is expected to be an Exhibit 10 contract. The guard, who has been in the G League for many years and has yet to make his NBA debut, now has the opportunity to show it with the Nuggets.
The Nuggets lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a thrilling seven-game Western Conference semifinals last season. During the offseason, the team added Cam Johnson, Bruce Brown, Tim Hardaway, and Jonas Valanciunas, significantly boosting their roster depth and positioning them as a strong team poised to challenge the Thunder this season.
McCoy played college for Boston University, where his scoring average increased from 8.9 to 17.4 points per game over five years, appearing in 147 games. After going undrafted in 2022, he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Lakers, averaging 14.2 points per game on over 50% shooting . He subsequently played for the Spurs and Pistons' G League teams, but his numbers declined.
In the most recent season, McCoy played four games for the Detroit Pistons' Motown Cruisers before being offered an olive branch by the Nuggets. If he can show some promise during training camp, he's still expected to earn a two-way contract.
