Wolfsburg's Germany international forward Lukas Nmecha has joined Leeds United on a free transfer..

Leeds United announced on its official website on Saturday that Wolfsburg's Germany international forward Lukas Nmecha has joined the club as a free agent after his contract had expired.

According to Leeds United's official statement, Nmecha on has signed a short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027. He will officially become a member of the Whites on July 1, when the summer transfer window reopens again.

After completing his joining procedures, Nmecha, who was interviewed by Leeds United's official website for the first time, said: "This is really a great challenge. I am very happy and want to get to know the team as soon as possible."

"I have talked to the coach many times, and I am very happy to play the style they play in the EFL Championship and even in the Premier League."

"I saw that they dominated the ball and scored goals last season. I am an offensive player, so this is obviously exciting for me."

"Of course, in the Premier League, there are teams with better quality and you can't always play like that, but I think the manager's philosophy is to play exciting football, possession-based football, and that's what I'm used to and what I like. ”

About Lukas Nmecha

Nmecha, 26, was born in Hamburg, Germany on December 14, 1998. He is 1.88 meters tall and primarily plays as a center forward, but can also play as a left winger, or right winger. He has three nationalities of Germany, England and Nigeria. His elder brother Felix is also a professional footballer and currently plays for Borussia Dortmund as an attacking midfielder.

Nmecha joined Manchester City's youth academy with his brother since he was a child, and completed his Manchester City first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in the English League Cup match against Leicester City in December 2017, and even scored in the penalty shootout in that game.

Between August 2019 and July of the following year, Nmecha was loaned-out to Preston and Wolfsburg successively.

In August 2020, he was loaned-out to Anderlecht, during which he reached the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup with the club.

After leaving the club at the end of his contract in the summer of the following year, Nmecha returned to Wolfsburg as a free agent.

During his four-year spell with Die Wolfe, Nmecha played 85 times for the Bundesliga powerhouse in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing four assists.
