The 30-year-old Swiss defender Akanji was loaned from Manchester City to Serie A giants Inter Milan for one season. In an interview, Akanji said that coming to Inter Milan was an easy decision and he looks forward to winning the championship with the "Blue and Black Army".
In the 2024/25 season, Akanji played 40 games for Manchester City and had previously won major honors with the team, including two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one Champions League.
In an interview, Akanji said: "For me, Inter Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Italy and the world. It has proved this in the past, so it was an easy decision to come here. I can play in different positions in the three-man defense system and I have played as a center back for the Swiss national team. I can play in different positions, but it is ultimately up to the coach to decide where I play."
It is worth mentioning that Akanji participated in the UEFA Champions League final with Manchester City in the 2022/23 season and started in the game. In the end, Guardiola's team defeated Inter Milan 1-0 and successfully won the championship.
Akanji said, "Inter Milan has shown that they can reach the finals of major tournaments. I hope we can reach the final again and win the championship. We were in the final two years ago. This time I hope Inter Milan will win."
“Serie A is different from the Premier League, and the Bundesliga as well. I’ve watched a lot of Serie A games and am familiar with the teams in the league. I really like this league, which is another reason why I chose to join Inter Milan. I can’t wait to meet the coach and learn the team’s tactics.”
Akanji added: “I can’t wait to see the Inter fans at San Siro, to see them in our first home game, and I’m waiting for that moment to come.”
