After being hospitalized for pneumonia earlier this month, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe returned to the team this week and will return to the coaching bench in the Premier League match against Ipswich Town.
Howe talked about his recovery progress and the excellent work of the coaching staff during his absence in the pre-match press conference. Howe said: "Physically I have not fully recovered, but mentally I am in good shape and can get back to work."
“You take your health for granted, and I did too. I feel I am on track to recovery and I’m delighted to be back with the team. I’m grateful to the NHS for providing first-class treatment.”
Talking about the operation of the team during his recuperation, Howe chose to fully trust the coaching team and did not participate in the daily affairs of the team. Howe said: "In that state, you either go all out or take a complete break. I didn't have enough energy to focus on football, so I handed over all the responsibilities to Jason Tindall and the coaching staff."
Howe spoke highly of the coaching staff's performance. He mentioned: "Jason, Graeme Jones, Simon Weatherstone, Stephen Purches and all the coaches have done an excellent job. I watched all the games, and although I was not fully immersed in them mentally, I was extremely proud and excited by the team's performance."
Howe's return will undoubtedly inject new strength into Newcastle United's sprint at the end of the season. At this critical moment with five games left in the Premier League, his comeback will be crucial for the team to compete for the top five and qualify for the European arena.
