The Athletic exclusively reported on Saturday that Serie B club Cesena is interested in appointing former Chelsea and England legendary international left-back Ashley Cole as their new manager.
According to the report, Cesena's management has begun talks with Cole and his agent team and is confident of finalizing the appointment soon.
Cole is considered one of the top candidates for the managerial position due to his past experience for playing at Roma, his familiarity with the Italian football system, and his positive reputation among coaches in England.
If the deal goes through, this will be Cole's first time managing a team.
The 45-year-old Cole retired in 2019 and first coached in Chelsea's youth academy before becoming assistant coach for the England U21s national team in July 2021.
The following February, Cole was appointed Everton's first-team coach, a position he will hold until January 2023.
In October 2023, Cole was appointed as Birmingham City first-team coach, and in August of the following year, he became the interim assistant coach of the England national team.
Later, after Thomas Tuchel became the new England manager, Cole moved to become a member of the English Football Association's technical development team.
