Los Angeles Lakers sign four rookies to strengthen backcourt and frontcourt

The Los Angeles Lakers officially announced the signing of four potential rookies, namely R.J. Davis, Eric Dickerson, Arthur Kaluma and Augustus Marciulionis, to inject fresh combat power into the team's backcourt and front line.
All four players played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2025 Summer League and showed their own characteristics. Guard Davis is from the University of North Carolina. During his five years in college, he played a total of 175 games, including 155 starts, averaging 15.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
Davis won the ACC Player of the Year and Jerry West Award in 2024, recognizing his strength as one of the top shooting guards in the country. In this year's summer league game against the Denver Nuggets, Davis played 25 minutes, scored 17 points and 3 assists, showing his dual ability in scoring and organizing.
Forward Dixon is the all-time leading scorer at Villanova University. He won the NCAA scoring title in the 2024-25 season with an average of 23.3 points per game and was selected to the Big East Conference First Team. He played 162 games in five years at the university, averaging 14.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, and has solid low-post skills and outside shooting ability.
Rookie forward Kaluma went to three universities and finally finished his senior season at the University of Texas. He played 33 games in 2024-25, averaging 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Although he only averaged 4.5 points and 2 rebounds in the Summer League, his strong physique and defensive coverage are considered potential highlights.
Another guard, Matthew Leonis, is from St. Mary's College. He was named WCC Player of the Year in 2025 and averaged 14.2 points, 5.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He is known for his mature ball control and tactical execution. He has improved year by year during his college years and is ready to fight.
With the addition of these four new players, the Los Angeles Lakers not only strengthen the depth of the Development League and the bench lineup, but also cultivate seed players for future backcourt rotation.
